My Doula Died And I Doula’d Her Through It

In the winter of 2014, I began to have an odd feeling that I didn’t have much time left with Patsy. I had never really given her a gift before. I packed my son Alex into the car very late in the evening while my husband was on a business trip and went to buy her a Christmas cookie and mug set, cookies, and hot chocolate. I showed up at her house in the dark and cold, and immediately started to make her hot chocolate. I wanted her to have a spontaneous nice experience along with the tangible ability to keep the dishes. We sat and talked for hours about the years we had together. I had known her since just before I was pregnant.
